X-ray spectrum:
X-rays are created when a component is attacked with high energy electron. So when a high energy electron attacks the target electron in an atom it, this leads to the target electron being ejected from the inner shell of the atom. Whereas bremsstrahlung radiation is when radiation is given off by a particle that is charged, usually an electron, because of acceleration which is caused by another charged particle, usually an atomic nucleus. The x ray beam from an x ray is modified to suit the needs
The x-ray beam given off an x-ray tube may be changed to suit the needs of the use by changing the following:
Tube Voltage (kVp):
The alteration of tube voltage affects both quality & intensity. It affects quality because of the maximum photon energy that is determined by the tube voltage. Thus, the higher the tube voltage, …show more content…
Whenever tube current setting is increased, then more power is given to the filament which then leads to the heating of electrons and more of them are released so that they can collide with the target thus more ration is produced. The amount of radiation produced is communicated as the result of time and tube current. So this means the amount of radiation stays consistent unrelatedly to the changes in tube current and the time their product remains consistent.
Filtration:
Filtration is the method of abolishing low energy x ray photons that are not necessarily needed. This is done by inserting absorbing materials inside of a primary beam. Filtration allows radiographers to shape spectrums and also remove any low energy photons so they do not reach the patient. This is because it absorbs more of the low energy x-rays than higher energy x-rays. Adding filtration hardens the x ray beam because there’s an increase in average energy. Target
