Of Mice and Men is a very well written novel, it brings up many uneasy topics, that people do not like to talk about.
Racism, Social Standing and Mental Disabilities are just a few topics the author brings up.
But one of the topics that can be considered controversial is, are Lennie and George TRUE friends?
I’d say Lennie and George are as true as friends get, because they always have eachothers backs and they want to gain;Money,Respect and Land, with each other.

In Of Mice and Men, there is so many times where george could have just left lennie and lived a much better life. However, George would never give Lennie up, because George had Lennie’s back and Lennie had George’s.This is shown in the novel when George says”You ain’t gonna do no bad things like you done in weed, neither”(Steinbeck 7)This shows how even though Lennie is a screw up sometimes, George will

The Author says “ True friends take pleasure in each others gains and share their pains.’’This relates to the the topic of ‘If Lennie and George are true friends’, by showing all the bad things that have happened to them(mostly because of lennie) yet they stay together. This also relates to the story in the part “take pleasure in each others gains’’, this is just like Lennie and George because no matter what bad things happen they were still in it for the ultimate goal, Land for themselves, together. Another example in the excerpt from
“Friendship in the Age of Economics” is when the author says “Their rhythm lies not in what they bring in, but in what they immerse themselves in.” This is saying how true friendship is not about material things but, however is the gain of memories and life lessons. This relates to Of Mice and Men by showing however Lennie and George were together for gain, they wanted to gain things together and look back at the days in which they did not have what they have

Knowing that Lennie never meant to hurt anyone, George could’ve thought of a way to protect his friend. Although George abruptly ended Lennie’s life in John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men” so that he wouldn’t have to pass cruelly or painfully from somebody else, there still could’ve been some sort of way for the story to have not resulted in such a tragic death. In the novella, Of Mice and Men I believe that George was a good friend to Lennie. Friendship is when you are by someone's side, through thick and thin. George and Lennie were good examples of friendship because they were always by each others side, even though they may not have gotten along at times. Unfortunately, Lennie isn't so bright, so George has taken on the role of not only being his companion but his caretaker as well.
