When we talk about transformational leadership its focus is motivating people and when we talk about transactional leadership we also focus on motivating people. However, the way these two leaders motivate their followers are much different. With transformational leadership they use an intrinsic way to motivate their followers. This means that they inspire, encourage and empower their followers. On the other hand, transactional leaders use extrinsic motivation. This type of motivation is more materialistic than intrinsic motivation. It offers followers a reward like pay or promotion. Also, the transformational leadership style seems to be a more positive environment to work in. The leader wants to understand why things are not working and want the followers to communicate their ideas with them to create a more productive environment. In contrast, transactional leadership seems to have a more negative work environment. They emphasize more on the negative aspects of the follower’s performance and correcting it without understanding. These two styles of leadership are also the same in the way that they both accomplish what they need done. Both of these styles are effective in each setting but some may find one or the other more desirable to work
