Personal Energy and Material of Toothpaste The cycle of energy that gets put into the simple product of a tube of toothpaste is a rather lengthy one. Most people simply think of the raw materials that are put into the toothpaste, but what about the tube itself? Most people just consider the resources that are put into the paste, but what about the energy used to transport those resources or to mix them together. Perhaps one has considered the tube and the energy that was put into making it, but how about the energy put into marketing and maneuvering it to be sold? There are far too many areas in this process that require energy that the only way to cover it all is to go though it step by step, so let’s get started. The first and more popular ingredient of the actual paste is fluoride. Fluoride is a naturally occurring element and can be found in sediment often nearby fresh water. The tools and machinery that are used to locate it ‘extract’ it and then transport it to the factory is just the beginning. Another major ingredient of toothpaste is the abrasives.
