Socrates told Lysis “your father isn’t waiting for you to come of age before he trusts you with everything; but come the day when he thinks that you know more than he does, he’ll trust you with himself and everything that belongs to him” (Lysis, 209c-d). He was stating that one is not useful based on age, but chiefly on knowledge, and this skill can lead to greater things. I agree with this quote because of a personal anecdote. Jem Finch and Scout Finch were raised in the intense love and logical choices that they get from their father, Atticus Finch. However, they were lack of feminine influences as their mother died when they were little. But throughout the book, the reader quickly learned that there are numbers of women that play crucial roles in filling in the gap of femininity that presents in the children’s state of mind. One of the evidence is in chapter 3, where we see Calpurnia, the housekeeper, educate Scout to become a better person at treating other people. The incident happens when Scout embarrassed her company, Walter Cunningham Jr, as she kept questioning about Water in the using of an excessive amount of syrup, which reminds him that he’s poor.…

One of the most significant quotes in Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird was uttered by Scout Finch in chapter 23, when Scout disagreed with her brother in a crucial manner when she said “Naw, Jem, I think there’s just one kind of folks. Folks” (Lee 227). This statement has more meaning to be uncovered than what is drawn from it when first read. The quote boldly deals with many of Lee’s themes of her novel, such as that racism classifies people into groups, innocence allows for idealized views, and that education can be used as a social construct. Lee uses Scout’s innocence to convey her message, as well as her conversation with Jem and earlier altercation with Aunt Alexandra to make her point.…
