In the breathtaking and captivating book, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the author expresses a simple love story that would take many people by surprise. Harper Lee, fabricates a character that embodies the qualities that many people strive to possess today. This highly respected literary character is Atticus Finch and To Kill A Mockingbird tells the amazing love story of this character. When people think of a love story, romance usually comes to mind, but a real love story is so much more than that. This simple love story reflects the love Atticus shares to the people who are deemed as outcasts, lesser than, or even malicious.
The first subject to Atticus's love is Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson is an innocent black man who is being accused of a crime he did not commit. Atticus is defending this man in court, knowingly taking the risk that he will be publicly criticized. The children of Atticus and the innocence of Tom is what drives him to take this case. Dubose acted towards Atticus. Mrs. Dubose was a sick elderly with absolutely no filter to catch her rudeness. Atticus brushes her hurtful insults off like they made no impact at all. However, this is the opposite for Atticus's son, Jem, who demolishes her flowers to defend his father. This leads to an eye opening discovery into who Mrs. Dubose really is and the hardships she is struggling through. Atticus looks up to Mrs. Dubose, even though all the things she said.
