To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a great book that really has a lot of great moments. A brief summary of chapters 1-6 is the narrator’s brother Jim breaks his arm and we are introduced to Jem and Dill. They have a scary neighbor named Boo Radley and Dill tries to get Boo to come outside from his house. The school year then starts and Scout hates it and has bad experiences there. Jill then cones and they then go to Radley’s house where warning shots are fired with a shotgun. I think the best quote in the book so far is “You never really understand until you consider his point of view… until you climb in his skin and you walk around in it.”
This quote occurs when Scout judges Walter for putting so much syrup on his food. Calpurnia immediately gets mad at Scout and end up hitting her. She then doesn't want Atticus to read to her because her day at school was

The traditional saying is to be in someone shoes but Atticus takes it one step further. Instead of shoes he says skin. This is saying to really understand someone's perspective you don't just think about their perspective you really internalize it. You think what that they would think and everything in between to really understand where they're coming from. You need to actually feel where they're coming from. To me this kind of is fitting for the book because if you dig deeper it fits the topic of racism. Walter is black and Scout treat him different not only because of that but it might play a factor in it. Atticus want Scout to kind of be able to see the struggles of different kinds of people not just yourself. This is not limited to people of different skin color and he wanted her to know that. This is relevant today because everyone interacts with different people and being able to understand others is very important. This advice is universal, anyone can learn from it and perspective is

Within this journal, I will be evaluating the themes in To Kill A Mockingbird. To begin, one of the themes displayed in the novel is the coexistence of the innocent and evil. One way the book conveys this is when the evil jury kills an innocent black man, Tom. I say this figuratively because the prison camp actually killed him, but the jury got him there. The jury knew Tom was innocent but back then, blacks were always guilty no matter the situaton.…

This relates to the author because she was an exceptional writer when she was young and always got criticized for it. Chapter 3 Page #33 “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view . . . until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” Atticus is giving Scout moral advice that I believe could come back up later in the book. Scout seems to have a hard time learning this lesson.…

A little before five o’clock on the evening of October 18, 2011, I headed into the paddock behind my house to attend my horse, Atticus, my parents had bought six days earlier. As I was reading the first chapter, I am predicting the kids will not meet Boo. I think they will not meet Boo because he is locked up. The people in the town have never really seen Boo. Scout says, “People said he existed, but Jem and I had never seen him” (Lee 10). People had seen Boo before but by using the word “existed” it makes Boo seem very distant and hidden.…

Atticus represents a protective shield between society and those that are defenseless because he abides by this belief by standing up for what is right, even though he is alone, and he gives the Negro citizens hope for equality. His accepting and fair attitude also contributes to his confidence and perseverance to continue to defend Tom Robinson. When Scout tells Atticus she doesn’t want to go to school because of Miss Caroline’s behavior, he tells Scout that to truly understand a person, you have to step in their shoes and put yourself in their position. (30) This virtue of acceptance and working to understand others allows Atticus to be patient and calm when dealing with people and guides him to do the right thing when taking action to deal with the social injustices. Atticus follows this principle to understand people, such as Boo Radley and Mrs. Dubose, and avoid being prejudiced towards them like most Maycomb citizens; he…

Atticus’s point of view on the world is very unique because he mainly sees the good out of people and treats everyone with respect “ You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view--until you climb into his skin and walk around in it” (Lee 39), as you can see Atticus is an understanding man and respects others perspectives. Not only does he respect other's perspective he also doesn’t care what you look like or what race you are, which most folk do in Maycomb county “Why otherwise reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is something I don't…

In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus exhibits a resilient illustration of predisposition and judgement being thrown away, through his activities, words, and overall responsibility in the story. He creates observations to remain any colored individual as equivalent in his settlement, and judiciously regards all residents who may or may not wrong him as human. These behaviors from the father intensely consider to one of the inclusive premises of the novel, where prejudice is still a compelling negotiating ideal in many settlements of any period. Atticus has one true characteristic and theme to himself: he stays fair to himself and everyone around him.…
