Right when I awoke, I noticed Atticus, my father, sitting next to my bed, a book open on his lap. I tried to get out of bed, and that is when I realized that something was wrong. My elbow was pointing the wrong way. I was taken aback for a second and then it all came flooding back to me. Something awful had happened in my small town of Maycomb.Someone had been after my sister, Scout, and me. First, Scout and I had been walking back from the Halloween pageant. The night had been like black velvet, warm and pitch black. Every now and then, cars would go past us, in the opposite direction. I had looked in Scout’s direction, considering all I had seen were the fat stripes on her costume. I stated, "If some of 'em were goin' in our direction, we could see better," (347). Someone had offered us a ride home and I had started to regret not accepting the offer.
I had taken a hold of Scout's ham costume, helping her to keep her balance. I did not want her to fall in this dark. I may never be able to find her in the dark. We had turned into the schoolyard, which was completely deserted. At that moment, Scout realized that she had left her shoes behind. I said, "Well let's go get 'em," (348).
But luck would have it, that as we turned round, the lights in the auditorium had winked out. It was then even

but someone had kicked me down. I had fallen to the ground and had rolled into Scout, who must have fallen in my absence. I had stood up, ignoring the pain the pain from where I was kicked. I had tried to help Scout up, but her costume had been all tangled up. We have made it a few steps when I had been thrown to the ground. I had been lying there dazed and panicked when there had suddenly been a burning pain in my arm. I had screamed at the top of my lungs from the blinding pain. And then it was just black. That was the last thing I remembered. I could sort of recollect the voice of Dr. Reynolds, but that was

I would rate this book 6 or 7 out of 10, because is was very detailed on what it was saying and I could imagine what was going on in the book. The thing that I did not like in the book. The story ends with Scout well on her way to growing up, as well. She now has some idea of what being a lady involves, and she no longer seems to mind so much. But importantly, Lee leaves readers with the remembrance that Scout the narrator is still a little girl.…

Chapter 1 Page #5 “There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy and no money to buy it with, nothing to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County. But it was a time of vague optimism for some of the people: Maycomb County had recently been told that it had nothing to fear but fear itself.” After researching the Great Depression, I discovered that the quote, “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself” is the most famous phrase from President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first inaugural speech. FDR gave his inaugural speech after his election in 1932. From this, we can conclude that the story began in 1933.…
