If I were to tell you to watch a film about men in prison, what would you think? most people would think it’s another ordinary Hollywood flick. The film “The Shawshank Redemption” based on the novella “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption” succeeds in avoiding the familiar and it manages to redeem Hollywood in the eyes of people who feared it in a dark ocean full of predictability and clichés. With music, visuals, script and acting, the director of this film Frank Darabont has proved himself the master of the craft to create one of the most recognisable films. For those unaware, The Shawshank Redemption is about a man named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) who is wrongly convicted of murder and is sentenced to two consecutive life terms…

Journal Entry The movie “A Time to Kill” is similar to the classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” as a white lawyer is defending an innocent African American man, but the predominantly white jury is the only obstacle that both men have of getting freedom and receiving true justice. The ending is where the two break apart as Carl Lee Hailey is pronounced innocent and gets to live, while Tom Tom Robinson ( still at court but believes that Atticus will fail) dies while trying to escape prison. Both the novel and film depicts how the justice system in the south is not fair as the jury cannot see beyond the skin colour of the accused. I believe that the actions that Carl Lee Hailey did was justified as the two rapists Billy Ray Cobb and Pete…
The Breakfast Club is one of my favorite movies of all times; as I was a junior in high school when this film was released in 1985. Detention was a common punishment; however, holding the detention sessions on Saturdays was controversial. Many individuals were angered by having to give up their time on the weekends. Therefore, the internal rebellion included not only students; but, parents and school facility as well. By the time my sister entered high school in 1988, Woodhaven High, no longer held Saturday detention sessions.…

The movie, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, directed by Milos Forman is a piece of art. Films are products of their time and evolve as American culture evolves. As such, directorial use of existing technology, and the cultural desire for improved movie-making have led to the development of the motion picture industry. “To most people, a movie is popular entertainment, a product to be produced and marketed by a large commercial studio. Regardless of the subject matter, this movie is pretty to look at – every image is well polished by an army of skilled artists and technicians” (Barsam & Monahan, 2016, p.3).…
Discrimination is a huge problem in our society and happens almost everywhere still to this day. Statistics of discrimination say that racism hurts chances for Americans and many more races. Discrimination is so extreme that people will even be denied for jobs they apply for because of their race. In To Kill a Mockingbird and The Help there are many ways that discrimination is showcased, especially between the blacks and whites. To Kill a Mockingbird has racism in many ways especially in the Tom Robinson case which has a devastating ending.…
The film Twelve Angry Men (1957) exhibited the power of an eyewitness, the characteristics of the defendant, and the power of group influence that affects the jury. Throughout the film, the reliability of the eyewitness was questioned. There were two eyewitnesses in the movie, the old man, who lives in the apartment below of the crime scene, and the old woman, who lives across the street. According to the film, there is a possibility that the eyewitnesses misinformed the jury about the crime scene. Eyewitnesses may not be as reliable as they are thought to be.…
Over the years, racism has been a prominent problem in society. Injustice and prejudice are products of the racism against minorities. American film director, Spike Lee, displays the racism that was as prevalent in the 1980’s, as it is now, in his award-winning 1989 film Do the Right Thing. The film takes place in a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. It follows the life of a pizza delivery man who works for Italian owners of Sal’s Pizzeria.…
Changing Ways Realizations are the cause for many people go through major changes in their lives. Many of the realizations in the film are based on the problems the characters run into with stereotypes and racism in America.…

Is there eternal sunshine in the spotless mind? This is the question posed by writers Charlie Kaufman, Michel Gondry and Pierre Bismuth in their movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This movie, directed by Gondry, explores the idea that feelings and emotions are more powerful than memories, and that if we erased all of our memories, we would still possess the feelings and emotions that were created by those memories. The movie was inspired by a male friend of Bismuth who said that he would like to have all memory of his girlfriend erased. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind tells a story about two people, Joel and Clementine, who are in a bad relationship and eventually break up.…
After analyzing both videos I found that the first presenter lacked emotions while reading the poem; as can be seen, she demonstrated a good eye contact while reading at a normal pace. However, near the end of the video she continuously looks down at her paper. Not to mention, the camera is only focused on her face; in that case, the audience cannot see the paper. Indeed, what gives her away is when she hesitated for a few seconds; that indicated she had lost track of where she was in the reading. Despite that, she played it off well by pulling back her hair and continuing where she left off.…
