Titanic Persuasive Essay

The Titanic sank on April 15th, 1912. Contrary to what you might believe the real reason for the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic wasn’t an iceberg creeping up on a cold foggy night. The reason was an iceberg was sneaking up on an unsuspecting captain. The captain was so sure of the “unsinkable” ship and the excellent time they were making he decided to relax and pulled out his phone. While he was texting his wife the Titanic hit the iceberg that leads to its sinking. So don’t text and drive, you will hit an iceberg and drown in the freezing waters of the Atlantic… Obviously that’s not how it went. Captain Smith was a respectable man that went down with his ship along with over a thousand people. However, the morale of the story is essential. Don’t text and drive! Whether it’s a massive passenger ship or a small hybrid. Oklahoma has passed a new ban prohibiting texting while driving. In order to see why I think the ban on texting and driving will improve my community in two major ways I’m going to discuss these two points: human safety and economic benefit. We’ve all seen the commercials. We’ve all heard the saying “It can wait.” Now, imagine this. You were driving along when you get a text, you think to yourself “I’ll just check it real fast.” In an instant you read the message and begin to reply, only you get half way through typing your message and without your knowing, a life has vanished from this world. You get out to see what you’ve hit and realize it was the little seven year old girl down the block. She was playing in the street at the time when your carelessness took her from her friends, family, and the community. As you stand there you begin to cry, but you don’t know if you’re crying for the seven years of her life wasted or the roughly seventy-three years you stole from her. Tens, hundreds, if not thousands are killed every year from texting and driving. Not only are unsuspecting victims safer drivers are safer. People walking on the sidewalk as well as the teenager driving behind the semi-truck that slammed on its brakes are safer. The Declaration of Independence guarantees the “…right to …show more content…
If texting drivers are lucky, they won’t hit anything. However, it’s very common for any distracted driver to go off of the road for variable amounts of time. Oklahoma, being a primarily rural state, is not known for pristine roads and often there is little to no shoulder. Thus going off of the road due to texting can have major implications. Damage could easily be done to the driver’s vehicle. Primarily their wheels and suspension both of which are not cheap to fix. There are generally very serious obstacles off to the sides of roads: glass bottles, sharp metal, large rocks, and animals. If someone is lucky enough to stay on the road Oklahoma is known for its wildlife. Many times deer have run out in front of my car and thanks to my quick reactions I have avoided the disastrous prospect of hitting one. Hitting a deer can ruin the front end of your vehicle: busted headlights, demolished hood, and a shattered windshield are just a few. Texting and driving can have a multitude of consequences on drivers and those around

Sometimes, in sports or in life in general, there are favorites and underdogs. There is a general consensus that the favorite team or player will win but sometimes it`s the underdog that wins and receives all the honor related with that win. This is very similar to what I read about Seabiscuit and what I watched in the video of Jason McElwain. Some people have the ability to transcend their underdog status (ie. Red from Seabiscuit and Jason) and create something very special.…
