Tinder encounters its first difficulty when you look at the distribution of sex in the Downtown area. While it is problematic to assume heteronormativity, there is 4865 more men than there is women, about an eleven percent difference. Knowing this, Tinder’s algorithms can be modified to show mem matches from further away to compensate for the lack of women. Tinder is used most by people between the ages 25-34 which aligns well with the 48% of the Downtown population who are between 20-39, meaning that the demographic that typically uses Tinder is well represented. However as the data is from 2006, unless there has been mass migration, we can expect the average Downtown resident to be about 10 years older than the typical Tinder user. This information is useful for knowing what targeted advertising should be done. Older Tinder users in the Downtown area could be sent advertisements for local babysitters, restaurants, and theater performances, while younger users could be targeted with ads for clubs, movie tickets, or discounts for nearby pharmacy stores. While we can expect the true population of Downtown residents who are single to be less than 52.8%, it is naive to expect all Tinder users to be single.
