Spotting a Tiger shark can be fairly easy. They are more known for their behavior than their looks, but looking more closely shows that there are long ovular spots that cover the body and the fins of the shark. Some key visual factors that give the shark away are their large eyes. These gaping dark holes allow them to hunt at night and at great depth by adapting to low light levels. When attacking, the third eyelids called the nictitating membrane have been biologically adapted to cover the eyes from penetration when an animal attempts to escape. So those stories where people say to poke the shark in the eyes during an attack will only irritate and disorient the shark so get away as fast as possible. With this, they are able to consume almost anything including tires, license plates, and other human wastes. They have a muscular jaw that contains twenty-four saw like identical teeth that are curved to a point with serrated edges that allow tearing and grinding. The body of the sharks are very muscular surrounding the cartilaginous skeleton. Average measurements range from ten to fourteen feet with a maximum length of seventeen. The equivalence to a six-foot man but not as thick. They weigh around eight hundred fifty to one thousand four hundred pounds. Their durable bodies are able to dive a whopping two-thousand six-hundred feet as a maximum record depth. Although this isn’t very far it is pretty good for a shark.
The skin of the shark has genetically adapted to have a white belly that when seen from above, blends in with the light colors of the sky. When seen from the top there is a gray to black shade that blends in with the murky lightless waters below. When looking on either side, the white belly fades into the darker top which creates a grey illusion of the blue water surrounding it.
