The War Powers Act is a federal law that was made to limit the United States president power to commit the United States of America to an armed conflict without the consent of the US Congress. The President needs to notify Congress and explain why they needs to do that within 48 hours. It was basically made to prevent “future Vietnams”. If the president deploys the military without the approval of congress, the president has a 90-day window to direct troops, 60 days to continue to arm military forces, and 30 days to withdraw those forces. This demonstrates the power struggle between Congress and presidency because the president still gets to do what they want and there is not much congress can do except wait out the 90 days. Also, Congress gets to decide when to go to war and there is not much the president can do after the 90 days are over. The power struggle is big, because they need to be working together to get something accomplished, instead of just one of them working on it. It is also good that this big power is divided by two parties because maybe one of them had the right idea and what they did for example the president forcing a strike it can allow the president time to accomplish their goal. Even if the idea was bad it is good that it is not permanent and it is only for a limited amount of time. The War Powers are divided between the Executive and Legislative Branch. The President of the United States is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Congress has the power to make declarations of war and they can raise and support the armed
