Mentor, is a kind of authority. Very rarely is an authority in every respect. There is also a difference between the professional mentor and moral mentor. It would be wonderful if these aspects went hand in hand, but this is rare.…

Universities cannot control all factors relating to a student’s decision to not come back as a sophomore; however, they can experiment with ways to assist students who feel lonely or struggle with academics.…

My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…
Rehearsing Your Personal Case Mentor ship As one of the options I brainstormed to address the delinquent behavior of my juvenile, I've come to believe that what most young people in the juvenile justice system needs is not services or professional assistance. Some do. Some are in the justice system because they cant stop their behavior because they have mental health problems, substance abuse problems and they need professional help to get past those barriers. But many are often suffering from severe cases of adolescence, and they need to be helped with that disorder. Learning responsibility, learning how to associate with others, learning how to make decisions, learning that there are risks in life and that there is no need…
In sixth grade, I had applied to mentoring and was not accepted. In my seventh grade year, I had applied once again and this time I was accepted to be a mentor for my eighth grade year. This had changed my life for the better. I was able to learn and experience things that I might never of been able to experience without being in this program. I was able to help people that I never thought I would help.…
In this article, Moerer-Urdahl and Creswell (2004) talk about using a specific type phenomenological approach called transcendental phenomenology for exploring “ripple effect” in a mentoring program for leadership. They believe that transcendental phenomenology represents a set of philosophical assumptions with regard how to organize and analyze phenomenological data. At the core of this specific approach is its systematic and structural way for gathering and dealing with the qualitative data. In the article, they identify steps necessary to do so. The center of the study is the effect of mentors on mentees through the provided leadership mentoring programs.…
Professional development (PD) is essential for the development and maintenance of professional skills (Bosschieter, 2016). Throughout my high school, I always had mentors from teachers to local community leaders to guide me in time management, developing leadership skills, and having a passion for giving back to my community. They were the support that I needed during times, where I felt I could not manage everything anymore. I want to be the same support system that they were for me for another student because I know how important it is to have someone to say, “you got this.” I want to help students to love the world of education as much as I do and learn how great it feels to help someone during their times of need. Mainly, I want to be the anchor for a student that feels overwhelmed and stressed out.…

In Reverse Mentoring, the mentor has more up to date knowledge in a particular area and the mentee has overall experience. On the other hand, reverse mentoring could also be the case where the mentee is older than the mentee by age. A good mentor in this model must be able to communicate their knowledge such that they are not misunderstood to being judgemental or being unduly critical of the work of others. In some cases, the mentee being more experienced or older may resent the fact that a less experienced person is telling them what to do. Then again, the mentee may see this as an opportunity to update their knowledge, (Forbes, 2012).…
This semester I learned many techniques and lessons regarding how to become a better mentor. Some of the major lessons I learned were related to how I communicated and led others. I learned that I am a leader in the exploration stage and a considerate communicator. Learning these facts about myself help me cater my style of communicating to different mentees and how to recognize how other people see me in the leadership role of mentor. Learning how to find out about how you communicate and about the leadership model in class gave me tools to work on myself as well as tools for me to pass on to my mentees.…
