I always strive to create a conversation with the residents about anything other than their health, to show that I truly want to engage in their life and past experiences. I also participate in communication between my fellow students in post-clinical conference with the IPASS that we have been doing, along with communicating with some of the nurses around the facility. Docucare also plays an important in the development of my communication skills in nursing. For me it is important to not talk about my day outside of clinical with excruciating detail. Of course I go home and tell my mom that I got to apply a dressing on a resident, but I never disclose who the patient was or what they needed the intervention for. When using Docucare, in our nursing care plans and nursing diagnosis take into consideration the interventions that would need to be done in order to maintain optimal health for a resident. When taking care of a resident I try to encourage the resident to do all that they can while still maintaining a high level of comfort. I use assistive devices when it is necessary and make sure that there is a reason for using the device, not that I just wanted to use a Hoyer to get someone out of bed. I have been able to do interventions that a registered nurse or a wound nurse would do, such as full dressing changes and medication
