While a generation still exists in which racism was prominent and it was normal and legal to discriminate, we can understand why such issues are still alive. Previous generations remained ignorant to such issues and it was never a topic that was taught in education. That is why it’s common for traditionalists are more susceptible to obtain these racially driven beliefs, in which many of them got passed down to the next generation. In modern day society, it is now heavily talked about and explained so that we can avoid these problems in the future and for proceeding generations and it’s obvious why we must do this.…

This shows that through all of this hatred, there were white people who understand the struggles African Americans had. However, all white people should stop treating them with hatred because eventually everyone shares the same fate. During the disagreement between African Americans and White people, no one wanted to think how the police all around was treating people wrong. This is because police are here to protect and help people, therefore most people wouldn’t question them: “ I doubt you would so quickly commend the policeman if you were to observe their ugly and inhumane treatment of Negros here in the city jail; if you were here to watch them curse and push old Negro women…

The two theories could be benefit from being used together because it allows for a clear description to the reason why people want to reduce discomfort. Cognitive Dissonance would benefit from the five different elements that make up Dramatism. This is because if Cognitive Dissonance was to adapt these elements it would not be able to just see the amount of discomfort that an individual is feeling but would be able to analyze it as a result. Festinger could also bring Burke’s key term of guilt to identify why someone may be feeling the discomfort in the beginning. This is because a person could possibly have guilt which causes their discomfort.…

Provide an example of cognitive dissonance from your own life. There have been many situations in my life that falls under the theory of cognitive dissonance, but I will narrow my example down to when I use to smoke marijuana. A cognitive dissonance is the discomfort that is caused when two cognitions (beliefs, attitudes) conflict, or when our behavior conflicts with our attitudes (Aronson, Wilson, Akert, Sommers, 2013, p.158). For some people smoking marijuana not produce discomfort, but for me it did, because I was smoking it for the wrong reasons. For example, the only reason I smoke marijuana was when I needed to satisfy my uncomfortable reasons, such as dealing with difficult life decisions that took my life upside down instead of finding Christ to give me peace in the mist of my uncomfortable situations.…
