Roosevelt loved helping the country and people. He created a domestic program named "The Square Deal" which reflected his three major goals: conservation of natural resources, corporate law, and consumer protection. He wanted to protect animals and land from businesses that he saw as a threat. Roosevelt once stated, "the rights of the public to the natural resources outweigh private rights, and must be given its first consideration." Therefore, with this being said, Roosevelt made it his goal to help out as much as he could before his presidency would end. By the end of it, Roosevelt established approximately 230 million acres of public lands between 1901 and 1909, including 150 national forests, the first 55 federal bird reservation and game preserves, 5 national parks, and the first 18 national monuments.
