One of the characters affected by loneliness is Curley’s Wife. She is affected because as a child her mother was protective and kept her away from some life experiences. She assumed that her mother threw away the acting letter so she was never able to get her big break. She said to Lennie “ I coulda made somethin’ of myself”( Steinbeck 88 ). She stated that she doesn’t like curley and that she just found someone at a bar. That person she found just so happens to be Curley. She found Curley after she was drinking in despair because of her failed acting career. She most certainly can’t talk about the other men on the ranch, even though she tends to give the other men on the ranch “the eye” but Curley doesn’t know she does it. Another important character affected by loneliness is Crooks. Him being the only black character in this book implies he was lonely but that isn’t the only reason his is lonely. He also has a physical condition caused from being kicked by a hourse. His spine is crooked from the accident, hence the name Crooks. He is used to the isolation but that doesn’t mean he likes it. When Lennie came into his room in the stable Crooks said “You got no right to come in my room. This here's my room. Nobody got any right in here but me”( Steinbeck 68). …show more content…

When everyone was waiting for the sound of the gunshot Candy just layed in his bed and stared at the ceiling and wall. Candy was so used to having his dog around he doesn’t know how to feel or act without him. He eventually starts talking to George and Lennie about the ranch and says he wants to help them get it and in return he wants to live with them.
