In Frederick Pohl short story, “Day Million” is a love story. According to the critic David Samuelson "Day Million" is a love story set in the future when, "genetic engineering and social change have modified the meaning of gender, the forms human bodies can take, and the immediacy and exclusiveness of a love relationship." Which was ironic because the story was about these two species falling in love. Automatically, he began with a humorous attitude tone. The tone the author used made the readers unbalanced and uncomfortable, but made sense why at the same time. For example, in the beginning the author talks about how the female character Dora is a biologically a male, but looks like a female. She has everything a female has, plus she dances. Which is ironic and funny, because the author tells his readers she has XY-chromosome, but you have to do a scan and cut the creature open. Showing his readers that the creatures are different, and a parody of our period. In our time period we cannot really tell who is male or female, instead we make an assumption of what we see and then what we hear. Dora does what basically any girl would do. Also, Dora is like the princess in the story. Then there is another character, Don, and the author made him a parody of a classical prince, superhero who falls in love at the first site. This is just like in our time period where we have these fairy tale stories where the prince and princess falls in
