With some short encounters, however, Montag started to bloom in thinking for himself and Clarisse inevitably turns into a crucial character for Montag’s development. One example can be Clarisse made some poignant observations in her first encounter with Montag. This encounter includes Clarisse pointing out things such as Montag laughing without any jokes said, or anything done that would infuse that laughter. She also observed him not pausing when he talks, he just talked without thought. (8). In response to these accusations Montag stopped walking. This response could mean that that phrase may have bothered him, or actually made him think, as if he stopped to think about it. In this simple interaction Clarisse encourages Montag to think about what to say and what is said, even though it is not explicitly said. This is the beginning of Montags process of reeducation, and thoroughly makes him start to think. Another way Clarisse made Montag start think is by questioning him. One of the questions was “Are you happy?” (10). This was the last question asked by Clarisse in their first encounter, and really made Montag think, and inevitably can be labeled as life changing. Faber begins by describing the society before. He was actually living when the made the decision to get rid of all books, and he regrets the actions he did not take in order to stop society form burning the books. He describes himself as a coward, but later shakes out of it so that he can pass his knowledge onto Montag. Having insight from an individual who was at the scene is vital for someone to learn the history of the past. Passing down information from generation to generation helps build a better future. This helps Montag to better synchronized why the society is the way it is with the past. In other words, this helps Montag expand upon his
