The Year-Round School Calendar

In forty-six states across the country, schools have begun the use of the year-round schooling calendar(“Schools without Summer Break"). In the traditional school year, students attend classes for about nine months followed by a three month vacation. In an all year school, that summer vacation is broken up into numerous shorter breaks that occur throughout the year while still following the 180 day school calendar. Year-round school is necessary and should be used in education nationwide. Students in these types of schools are constantly being immersed in the classroom so they won’t experience summer learning loss by the time they return to school. The average dropout rate for these students is around 2% versus the 7% in traditional schools. Without the long summer break, students will remember more of what they learned causing academic improvement. Students’ in these types of schools won’t have the ability to get summer jobs or go to camps over the summer. There is also worry that students will eventually get bored of being in school consistently and want to drop out. Students won’t have a long summer break, however they do still have time off so if they’re at the required age to get a job then they’ll be able to. Also, if they want to go to camp then they can always take off of school. Based on numerous reasons why, year-round schooling is the best option for kids all over the world to better their learning abilities. They’ll be more relaxed without forgetting what they’re learned, and it would be easier on everyone involved despite what people against it have to say.
