The Yalta Conference During World War II

The Yalta Conference was very important. It went on from February 4th to February 11th, 1945. It took place in Yalta crimea. There were three main people involved in this meeting, Churchill (Great Britain), Roosevelt (United States) and Stalin (Russia). The meeting was about the effects of world war 2. There was an agreement that was discussed at the conference that a new type government would be set up in Poland. It was called a coalition government. This government had free election in Poland. It gave eastern Poland to the Soviet Union and Poland would receive land from Germany. Germany was divided into four zones Great Britain, United States, France, and the Soviet Union. It was kept secret until the end of the war. It said the Soviet Union was going to war against Japan two to three months after the end of Europe's war. But America's use of the atomic bomb ended the war much sooner, so the Soviet Union did not have to fight Japan. The Soviet Union wasn’t capable of getting the demands they needed. In schools students looked at communism and it wasn’t looked at in their favor. Most people didnt want the Soviets to go to war with Japan either. Many people thought that the borders should be returned to the way they were before the war but that didn't happen either. The Yalta conference was good for the Soviet Union because of all the land it got. It was a good conference, it ended war in Europe without a lot of arguing with the major war powers. Germany was only responsible for part of the war reparations. Poland received a government that worked. When Germany first began its attack, the Western powers avoided conflict in a hope that Germany would attack the Soviet Union and the two powers would destroy each other. Stalin, in order to prevent this, at first, entered into a treaty siding with Germany.
