One Instance of such a leader is president George W. Bush(2001-2009).During the terror of 9/11 Bush had to command the U.S.A whilst being rushed between armoured cars, helicopters, and even a specially modified jumbo jet. The fact that Bush handled the situation as well as he did is just testimony to how adaptable he is. Similarly, although controversially, it can be said that Joseph Stalin was also a adaptable leader. Churchill used adaptive leadership through inspiring his nation to keep pushing and fighting, although they had already been considered a loss. Not only did he have to stave off an imminent enemy invasion but he had to move the peacetime economy to one that could support a war. Within a very short time, Churchill had to transform his organization to the modern-day equivalent of an Adaptive Enterprise so that it could adapt to this unexpected situation. He did this using the emerging technologies of the day, and of course he had to get it right the first time and make the investments count.…

In the book The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli discussed how certain characteristics were needed in order to make a leader successful. It has been argued that these same characteristics could be use to describe any successful leader in modern society no matter the population or the field in which they are working in.
