In Chapters 15 through 17 we learn more about how the countries of Europe modernize and sometimes do not modernize. However, no matter what country you look at in Europe at this time everyone has discontents with their country. This is the beginning of the ideas of revolution and rebelling against one 's country to take control over what the people want them to be and not what their leaders and monarchs want them to be. In Prussia, we were beginning to see how uneducated our people were. We saw the people in other countries and wanted to be as able and intelligent as them. So, we decided to begin to send our male children to school. This upset many of our female people but that wasn 't a priority for our people at this time. Our military at this time was looking to become absolutist, we fought the war of the Austrian Succession for eight long years. During this time we lost many of our people leaving us much more poor than before. Luckily, we had France and England behind us during this war against Austria and we signed the Peace Treaty of Aix-la-chapelle, giving Maria Theresa as the heiress to the Austrian lands. After this eight year long war we had the chance to take Poland. However, we were not helped at all by these new lands keeping us in poverty without or men to help us with our livelihoods. During this time, we began to expand our minds to understand more about us and our place in our world. One of the ideas that came our of our land is Idealism, something that gave us a new way of thinking. We had the chance to think about something other than the ideals that the church gave us. Gotthold gave us new hope by giving us a new view on religious tolerance. In Germany, most of the county was focused on unification. This is a very good time for us in Germany, we were beginning to become a very strong power and our people started to become more wealthy. However, we began a war with Austria and then another with France. Our people grew closer together with the establishment of the zollverein. The zollverein was a way to manage the tariffs and economic policies of Germany and unify them more. This made trade much easier for our people and helped us grow more economically. However, throughout all of this unification, our leaders were having a hard time figuring out what it meant to be a German. Our people were also discussing whether or not we wanted to be a monarch or a republic. A man named Frederick William insisted that he would become our leader no matter which we chose. And with him came the concept of Iron and Blood. Our people would be able to be taken care of as long as we never tried to go against the government and support them. We agree to this arrangement and our quality of life improves, however our voices our silenced. I believe that the people in this region lives have not changed since our previous chapters. Even though our economic lives have improved. But now we cannot speak up against our leaders and have to obey them for our own well being. Russia at this time is extremely enlightened, at the beginning of this time there is not much for us to complain about. Even though I would probably have to work extremely long hours, I would have the freedom to think for myself and even have a house to live in. I think that most other countries at this time would be very difficult to live in. In almost every other country the people and government are confused about who they are and what they want their country to be. I think that the worst to live in would be France, even though the idea of being apart of that history is appealing, I do not think I could live in a place filled with violence and death.
