New technology has both improved and diminished the world on a global scale. The development of new technology has caused many controversial opinions over the course of the century. Numerous ideas and readings influence the making of these products. Non-lethal weapons can have a harmful or beneficial impact on society's mental and physical health, similar to the technology in “The Veldt”.
“The Veldt”: Benefits
In “The Veldt’” the nursery provided the Hadleys with multiple benefits.The nurseries original and first benefit was being able to project the pattern of a child's mind on a wall while eliminating destructive thoughts and giving the ability to study ways to help the child (Bradbury). First of all the room gave too much freedom for young, immature children. Essentially, that factor helped cause the outcome of the story (Bradbury). Not only the room, but the house itself with its pampering technology took away self independence (Bradbury). Mrs. Hadley felt as if she could not compete with “The Veldt”. Lydia quotes that she doesn't feel like she belongs at her home any longer due the lack of want and need from her children. “The Veldt” also promoted a dark mental change in the children's mind with thoughts of death and murder defeating the whole purpose of the nursery. Non-lethal weapons only last temporarily (Staff 1). This ensures that there will be a decrease in death toll (Staff 1). Non-lethal weapons are also less damaging to infrastructure, buildings, surroundings and civilians. In recent studies, this new weapon has put the economy at an advantage by saving money from less medical treatment and death. Non-lethal weapons could also bring back trust between officers and society because one's demise would no longer be endangered. Society could also increasing develop with this technology by becoming more humane and peaceful when being put in situations resulting in weapon use.
Non-lethal weapons: Detriments The idea of non-lethal weapons can be unbeneficial by new freedom rights and choice of weapon (Staff 1). Therefore, the result is more violence and cruelty towards others. Non-lethal weapons can easily lead to being a torture mechanism (Staff 1). It can become a way of manipulation towards officers and military leaders by enemies and targeters (Staff 1). This can even become a problem with average people in society being against one another. These none deadly weapons still take dangerous risks when being put into the hands of society.
