Saved by Nonconformity Twilight. The Vampire Diaries. These are two examples that prove the rise of the glossed-over vampire series of the new generation. Vampires are no longer characterized by pointy teeth and bloodlust, but romanticized to the point that they even become love interests. However in Resureksyon, they broke off from these clichés; and amidst the unclear plotline, unnecessary effects, and underwhelming characters, perhaps that is one of its redeeming qualities, making the movie quite interesting. The plot was confusing as many instances were unclear. The ending played out in such a way that hints that either Migs or Aila became a vampire, yet no other indication was made to tie it up. Even as he is bitten his character attempts to bring laughter where it was clearly out-of-place, considering the serious atmosphere. The doctor is also a confusing character, as he did not seem to have a clear goal. He had no story or development and his role was insignificant for one with that much screen time. His character felt bland and detached, and I honestly was expecting a noble sacrifice on his part just so he can have some substance.
Conversely, Aila became one of the movie’s positive points. Aila is an ordinary girl, but as the story progresses she undergoes a growth in personality as over time, she gains courage to stand up against her sister. Aila’s appeal comes from her motivation which does not revolve around love interests, breaking away from modern clichés. She becomes strong on her own, showing growth that lacked in other characters, reflecting a role model of what values girls should develop, and I admire her for her strength and courage even if it pained her to hurt her
