The happenings in The Triangle Fire occurred during the beginning of the 1990’s. It was one of the worst and deadest accidents that happened in history. Set in New York during times that were difficult and having just one job was sometimes not enough. The women that were in this were struggling with having money for their families and being out in strikes was a danger for them, because they could lose their jobs. Women worked up to thirteen hours on sewing machines with very little pay.
The factory the women worked in was owned by, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. They wanted to be on top on the latest fashion, so their factory had up to date sewing machines and garments. Making money was an important factor of their business, to the fact that they would take money off of their pay for any mistakes and they were checked to see if they were not stealing anything. This factory was like the others around them that didn’t care for the women, but for the investment they got. After a while when working conditions were worse women started to strike for better pay, less hours, and safer shops. With the help of Anne Morgan, an important woman of that time, it got easier to get what they wanted. Being on of the biggest strike done by women. Back in the factories they got what they asked for but the safety of the shops never really changed. The fire at Blanck’s and Harris’s factory left 146 people dead, many of them wouldn’t have died if it wasn’t for the bad safety conditions. Being a huge shame to the owners’ others started to fix their safety conditions in their own factories. The main point was that many of the factories owners had so much ambition for money that they didn’t care for other things. Taking them into a tragic accident that could easily be fixed. Also that for all that the women did to better their work place. It takes hard work to accomplish what one wants. I have seen this video before when I was in High School. It was for my history class and it was just a video we watch for class nothing really important. But I do remember that it was about women on strike and about the fire that happened. How the women were scared and they had no way out of the fire. I mostly remember how they described them jumping from the eight floor and people watching them burn. What I learned new was about the ages of the women. Fourteen being the youngest, I was so surprised by her age. How at this age she was already working and to die at that age just hits me hard. I have heard about other stories about children working at young age, but it is still said to hear that they would have children working and getting hurt. It said that the youngest age was at fourteen, but there were probably many others that were around her age. Maybe they were working to help their
