The town government is a seven member Council that holds the legislative power of municipality. The power of municipality allows the sevens members to discuss and enact possible solutions to community problems. Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of every month, usually at 7:00pm. While council meetings are not open to the public, there are several public meetings that are open to everyone; people are encouraged to share their opinions regarding the community problems at these meetings. Council members are elected every other November in a non-partisan election. If elected, one will serve a four year term on the council. The Access for All Commission is a group that has the ability to advise the Mayor and Township Council on matters concerning disabled or access challenged persons. These matters range from a variety of problems that disabled/access challenged people face, such as recreational activities and employment practices. In other words, this commission serves solely for the purpose of providing those with a disability the chance to participate in everyday community activities to their fullest extent. The Board of Health serves as as governing body that ensures the public health of the town. The board is regulated by the NJ Department of Health, which means that they not only have to follow NJ Department's health policies, but that they also have to enact local health procedures that prevent basic disease. In other words, the Board of Health’s only job is to prevent disease and improve the overall health of residents. The Environmental Commission is a group of people that assess the proposed uses of open space in the town. This commission also studies properties to decide possible conservation methods/uses of the land. The Historic Preservation Commission is a committee that is in charge of preserving homes, buildings, or sites that have been classified as historic landmarks. The Housing Commission is similar to the Access of All Commission in how it advises Township Council and Planning Board on matters concerning residential developments; they make sure that these new developments include affordable housing units based on the residents’ income in that area of town.
