The first idea was that all men possessed inalienable rights. These rights consist of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The next argument that Jefferson made was about King George the third. Jefferson said that the king had violated colonists rights by passing unfair laws and interfering with colonial governments. The king was also accused of taxing colonists without their permission and for allowing the British army to violate the colonists’ rights. The third idea was influenced by the Enlightenment. This idea was that the colonists had the right to separate from Britain and become an independent nation. One example of how the Declaration of Independence is being followed is whenever a president is impeached. This applies to the fourth principle. An example of this is President Jackson. Jackson was impeached for allowing states in the south to keep the slave system going but just change the name to “black codes.” The people and the government saw that this was wrong and had an impeachment vote. There were eleven votes against him which was just enough to get him impeached. This is an example of the Fourth principle because the people and the government saw something in the government that was wrong they immediately took action against it by changing the government. The second example is voting. When you are old enough to vote, although you can only vote for the people that are running. You still get to choose who you want as your leader. When you vote nobody is allowed to force you to vote for someone it is completely up to you. I believe that getting to vote is an example of liberty, because you are free to vote for who you want and nobody is pressuring you to vote for
