The German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, once said: “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.” Li-Young Lee’s poem entitled “A Story” poignantly depicts the complex relationship between a father and his son through the boy’s entreaties for a story. He employs emotional appeals as well as strategic literary devices to emphasize the differing perspectives that exist between father and son. Through shifting points of view, purposeful structure, and meaningful diction, Lee adds depth and emotion to the love shared by the two characters and illuminates a universal theme of present innocence and changing relationships over time.…
Each character in the Tao of Pooh is used and explained in the form of Taoism. Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga, and Christopher Robin are all different types of the writings of Taoism. If I were to relate to one of these character it would have to be a mixture Kanga and Piglet. Some of their attributes fit my lifestyle and some do not fit. Kanga carries attributes of comforting and generosity.…
The Tao according to Smith has three meanings, the way of ultimate reality, the way of the universe and the way of human life (Smith 198-99). The Taoists believe that the Tao is the universe therefore and the universe is the equivalence of god and that people are the equal parts of this…
Taoism is a religion most commonly seen in China. Taoism does share some similarities with two religions we have discussed previously, including Buddhism and Confucianism. This religion started with a man named Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu was born around 604 B.C and was known in the Taoism religion as “the Old Boy.” People were not very certain about Lao Tzu because there were different conspiracies about different parts of his life.…
Verse number 11, from the Tao Te Ching, contains imagery related to emptiness. Those images are objects we interact with on a day to day basis. The first image is a wheel. In this chapter, they depict the wheel as just a wheel, and that is what makes it so interesting. A wheel with a hole and that hole is what makes the wheel useful.…

Ntozake Shange style of writing and title makes her poems more relatable. Imagery is used to express the trials and tribulations African American women go through. Symbolism and characterization is used to make the women in the play transparent. Shange’s theme of self-awareness and inner strength encourages black women to accept themselves- flaws and all. Ntozake Shange’s use of literary elements in the choreopoem “For colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf” not only depicts the daily struggles of an African American woman, but also encourages African American women.…
What would you do when you see something that is displaced from its original place? would you put it back to the original place or pretend like you did not see it? Well, it depends on the person, some people don't care at all. However, someone might think it looks better in the new place. Good Morning class, my name is Broden Ingram and I am privileged to take part in the “Take Part” Festival of 2016. My poem “Ying Yang” is derived from Maya Angelou’s poem “Still I Rise”. The poem explains an issue I feel strongly about: the ignorance regarding inequality when it comes to race and skin color. I have employed a variety of structural and literary devices to develop my thoughts and ideas.…
The period 713-756 AD was the time the Tang Dynasty reached its zenith, and it was also known as the golden age of Chinese poetry. Among all the brilliant poets of the time, Li Bai 李白was one of the greatest and most influential romantic poets in Chinese literary history. Li Bai(701-762), styled Taibai 太白, and his pseudonym was Qinglianjushi 青莲居士, which means “lay Buddhist of blue lotus”. He likes reading, traveling, drinking, and writing poems. Li Bai has superior and admirable writing skills, and the themes of his poems are broad; sometimes his poems reveal his disdain for the corrupt government, and sometimes reveal his love to motherland’s magnificent mountains and rivers.…

“Personism” by Frank O’Hara and “The Poet” by Ralph Waldo Emerson are two texts that convey a theme surrounding poetry and its importance. O’Hara’s text mainly targets those that question poetry whereas Emerson’s text points out that poetry expresses nature and its not the reader but the person who is writing that is able to express what they truly feel. The question that I have for these two texts is during the time period of when O’Hara and Emerson wrote poetry, was there a lot of criticism about poetry itself and the way it should be written? My question derives from both texts and the reason is because O’Hara and Emerson go into depth in their texts to explain what poetry is, how it should be written and how it should be viewed.…
Pooh’s philosophy helps him to work alongside his inner nature, and find the good in every situation. Pooh truly embodies the Uncarved Block, the lessons of Cottleston Pie, and knowing your limitations. The Pooh way of living life simply and going with the flow is proven to be the best way to live compared to the ways of Owl, Eeyore, and Rabbit, as seen in The Tao of Pooh. Pooh’s ways are seen as better than Rabbit’s because while Pooh is the epitome of living life simply, Rabbit is “always on the run.”…
The Only Religion was written by Cecil Rajendra and it is a poem solely meant to show how similar people take football to religion. Football or soccer has stirred up passion in spectators and players for so long. It has been around in sports arena for 150 years and counting but still it’s getting more popular day by day. There are no other sports in the world that drove human head over heels and perhaps like nothing else known to humankind. Bill Shankly once said: “Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude.…
Wisdom encompasses all reality, so it is difficult to say that wisdom is found in any particular historical events, cultures or religions or in any ancient civilizations. However, the encounter with wisdom of the community of Israel can be traced in the written corpus which includes the Torah and the prophetic writings. Even so, some scholars studying the wisdom literature have the opinion or caution that, as wisdom is fundamentally related with creation and is available in every aspect of creation, one cannot limit wisdom to one people or one historical process. Creation is the locus for the wisdom literature because it reflects and develops the idea that human beings are created in the image and likeness of God (Gen 1, 27). In this literature, human beings are the part of a whole…
