Raymond is more of an indirect antagonist because he acts as an adjuvant to Meursault's downfall. Raymond drags Meursault into a conflict between “the Arab” and Raymond and eventually Meursault kills the Arab in cold blood. Raymond’s answerability is that he gave Meursault the gun later used to kill the Arab. Raymond's immorality contrasts with Meursault, who is simply amoral.While Meursault indifferently reacts to the events around him, Raymond institutes action. There is some incertitude between Meursault and Raymond’s relationship.While Raymond uses Meursault in his schemes he seems to feel some loyalty towards Meursault. It seems like Marie, he becomes drawn to Meursault’s idiosyncrasy. Marie is a protagonist who is Meursault’s “girlfriend” throughout the book. In like manner Marie enjoys physical contacts,for example she kisses Meursault periodically and enjoys the act of sex. When Meursault arrives in the senior center the director allows him to see his mother ,but they find that she has been sealed in a coffin. That night he keeps vigil over his mother’s body.To much of Meursault’s annoyance the talkative caretaker decides to stay with him the whole night.Before the funeral, he meets with the director and he informs Meursault that a very close friend of his mother,Thomas Perez will be attending the funeral. The next day Meursault goes to the public beach and runs into Marie Cardona and they have a date and spend the night together.Raymond (the local pimp) invites Meursault over for dinner where they discuss getting back at Raymond’s mistress. Raymond persuades Meursault to write a letter to lure his mistress back and he writes the letter that night.The following day Marie asks Meursault if he wants to marry her and he says nonchalantly that they can so they get engaged.The next Sunday they go to a beach house owned by Masson, one of Raymond's friends. While walking on the beach with Raymond they get in a fight with ¨the arabs¨ and Raymond gets injured. Raymond then gives his gun to Meursault and they walk back to the beach house where Raymond goes inside. Meursault then decides to go back to where ¨the Arabs¨ are and shoot one 5 times with the gun.
