The Space Shuttle Disaster has a rememberance memorial in Washington D.C in the Arlington National Cemetery. The national Aeronautics and Space Administration will always remember the day that a teacher and six other crew members did not make it home . The people the watched it on TV and first hand have also remembered the day.

She was a Social Studies teacher from Concord, New Hampshire. She attended Marian High School in 1966. When Christa was a teenager, she was inspired by Project Mercury and the Apollo Moon Landing Program. She married her boyfriend from high school, Steven McAuliffe and had two children Scott and Caroline. She graduated in 1970 from Virginia Military Institute. She got her first teaching job at Benjamin Foulois Junior High School, then at Thomas Johnson Middle School. Her last job was at Concord High School where she got the opportunity to go to space was offered. Resnik was one of the three mission specialists. She attended Carnegie Mellon University. She received a Bachelors of Science in electrical Engineering in 1970. She also attended University of Maryland to pursue a Ph.D. Before working for NASA she worked with R.C.A. Corporation and the Laboratory of Neurophysiology at the National Institutes of Health. She was also selected as an astronaut for NASA. Resnik became the 2nd American Women in orbit.
The second specialist was Ronald E. McNair. He attended A&T State University to receive a Bachelors of Science in Physics. McNair specialized in quantum electronics, laser laser technology, and completed his Ph.D in 1977. He worked as a Physicist at Optical Physics Department of Hughes Research Laboratories. His work helped him get a contract with NASA in the space program and has been on two missions.
Ellison S. Onizuka was a specialist. He attended the University of Colorado. He completed his Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science degrees in engineering in 1969.
