Racism has been around for many decades and it still progresses today. Racism occurs when people of different cultures perceives themselves to be superior to a different set of people because of their culture. Racism assumes the superiority of one group over another, an attitude of arrogance and ignorance. Racism extends beyond personal values and beliefs (Ponds 2013). Does racism still exist today? Racism still exists today worldwide and it affects our society. Minorities in our society experience many different and discrimination because of race. In the article, “The South Has Risen Again,” by David lotto, he discussed all the different aspects on racism between whites and African Americans and how it all began. It all started with the enslavement of African American and it certainly did not end with the emancipation proclamation. After slavery ended, racism continued on and caused segregation. After this election, many series of violent events occurred that indicated that racism still exists today. Despite the election of Barack Obama, America still has yet to fully confront the legacy of racism It still haunts those bodies whose skin does not prove bright enough to mirror the clouds (Massie 2014). Many series of white on black crime has occurred such as the killing of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown and the Victims of Charleston, South Carolina. These victims were killed because of racial profiling from police officers and because of hatred of people because of their race. In response of the numerous killings by the hands of police officers, a protest group was created called ‘Black Lives Matter.’ This movement was started to try to put an end to police brutality and try to fight for justice for the innocent victims who lost their lives by the hands of law
