Rape and sexual assault during a time a war have been largely neglected by the general population and scholars, and few empirical studies have been conducted to understand this phenomenon. However, rape has been an unstated requirement for wars over many years. That is why is is important to understand what brings certain individuals to commit these crimes. Therefore, my research will focus on the genetic and evolutionary factors as well as the sociological aspects that bring a person to commit rape, and the interactions between these factors. So considering the unique context of civil war, why do certain individuals rape, is it because they know there will know there won’t be consequences? Or is it because there are preset evolutionary forces and some sociological pressures?
