The Similarities And Differences Of Nike And Adidas

Sneakers have become a sort of cultural phenomena in American pop culture. Thanks to pioneering brands like Nike and Adidas, sneakers have become a dominant force in the shoe industry, in a way that nobody had foreseen. Although both these companies are similar in terms of the products they distribute, they also have their differences. Throughout this paper, key similarities and differences will be highlighted between the two companies.
While the firms sell very similar products, they both have their own endorsers. For example, when Michael Jordan took the NBA by storm in 1985, wearing his own innovative and stylish signature Nike shoes known as the Air Jordan Bred 1’s, fans around the nation wished to purchase the sought after footwear, and still do to this day. It is mind blowing that almost 35 years after the shoe was first introduced to the mainstream public, it still holds its relevance and sells out every time it is re-released. Nike sells similar products as Adidas such as casual sneakers, sporting sneakers, and even designer sneakers.

This is because they are competitors and need to keep their prices similar so consumers don’t sway towards one company over the other. As they are rivals to one another, the brands are growing dramatically and need to make sure they keep their consumers happy in terms of pricing their product. For example, Nike and Adidas both endorse NBA players and release their signature sneakers. Adidas uses James Harden, a player of the Houston Rockets, while Nike currently uses Lebron James, a player of the Cleveland Cavaliers. If Nike priced their Lebron James sneaker line much higher than the James Harden line, consumers may react and only purchase the Harden sneaker and vice versa.
