Today the naturalista movement has influenced all streams of media. In film there is more diversity in roles of black women and the different shades and styles of black women are being displayed. Cornrows and braids are not the only options there are and the variations are unique and achievable for almost all curl patterns. In the 60s dreadlocks were viewed as a hairstyle that only people from the West Indies could have, now it is hard not to spot someone who is either interested in, in the process of getting, or years into having dreadlocks and it is for anyone whose hair can loc. Various styles or braids and extensions have resurfaced to give naturalistas variation and protective styles for when a change is needed. For example, the crochet braid allows one to have various styles and install different types of hair while not disturbing their own hair and letting it grow. Weaves have been around for ages but some tend to pull at the edges of hair which slowly stop growing back but crochet braids act and a shield. Many naturals are afraid to add colour into their hair because of past damage that has happened due to relaxers and heat damage but with the rise in demand of different textured hair extensions, there are various colours that allow one to spruce up their look without box dyeing or bleaching their own her to achieve the look. The introduction of twist outs and ‘wash-and-go’ styles has given the Afro a stylistic flare as well. While Caucasian girls see themselves portrayed in the media as what is beautiful, naturalistas are teaching each other self-love and work twice as hard to be seen in the world and promote their beauty. The black community has been bashed and looked down upon for centuries and did not feel that they had a way to rebel against the current without being suffocated of resources but they are working to make their own. Naturalistas promote peace, love, and togetherness and do not look to other people for approval. The progress of the naturalista niche can be seen in the news, books, social media, television, and businesses. Educating while promoting togetherness encourages non-blacks to want to learn and/or understand the significance of uplifting the black community. The doll test magnifies to internal hate that many black have towards each other and the niche’s unwritten objective is to change the results and help young black kids grow to love and comprehend how beautiful they
