In “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” Washington Irving kind of wrote the story in a very funny form, but also in the story there is not a good view of humanity. Indeed humanity does not have to be viewed as pink roses, because the truth is that individuals are not nice and they are all different. People can be very bad and others can be just wonderful, but no matter how good someone is, everyone can commit stupid things. In order for Katrina to ensure Brom’s affection, she utilizes Ichabod to pursue her purpose. This selfish act caused Ichabod’s disappearance; “Ichabod was horror-struck on perceiving that he was headless” because he had encountered the headless horseman and went missing. Also in the story the townspeople do not care about Ichabod because they are not interested in finding him. If Ichabod had owned something or if someone actually needed him for something they would care and would be determined to find him. Another person that was selfish is Van Ripper, he wanted Ichabod to be found, “for a moment the terror of Hans Van Ripper's wrath passed across his mind,—for it was his Sunday saddle”and he attempted to find Ichabod but only because he wanted his saddle
