Articles such as “Relationships and Technology”, and “DNA Fingerprinting: Cracking our Genetic Barcode.” talk about online relationships, and knowing who you are DNA wise, where you come from can help you decide making life decisions. DNA means “deoxyribonucleic acid, a self-replicating material in nearly all living organisms”. DNA is now integrated with technology, and making beneficial advancements for humans. Technology has helped scientists advance in DNA, which gives humans a reason why they look a certain way, a background on themselves or others, and help in solving crimes. DNA fingerprinting makes every human unique, no two people have the same DNA makeup. Nevertheless, it is important for everyone to know their genes, they need to be informed of which traits they carry, and who they are related to. 99.9% of DNA is identical, which means only 0.1 % of your DNA differs from other humans (Marieb,2007, p. 458). Marieb tells us “DNA fingerprinting involves analyzing an individual’s DNA mapping its unique pattern”. (p.458). DNA shapes who we are as an individual, our facial features, body types, and disease traits some people may have. In addition, online relationships focus mainly on inner qualities. Relationships online requires assurance that they are getting too know the person through trust, honesty, and commitment (Devito,2008 p, 334). In a world where physical attractiveness is heavily relied upon, it is nice to be able to talk to someone without being judged right away based on looks.
