We are in high school now, and that means soon we will all be going our own ways and starting our future. Some of use will go to college, but soon college might undergo a change to be free. College education being free would affect the job market, unemployment, and the people financially. Right now free college is beings talked about with the current student debt, the college plan itself, other countries, the cost, and rising tuition prices. The United States student debt is at an all time high with 1.1+ trillion dollars (Schrager). One free college plan is called “The Sanders Plan”. The Sanders plan would make getting a bachelors (4 year) degree tuition free for public colleges, lower interest rates, make colleges pay for 100% of the costs …show more content…
First off today the job market is very competitive. Today one out of three college graduates have jobs that someone with a high school diploma can get. Also today there are to many students earning degrees, which has lowered the value of a bachelors degree. Imagine if even more students got the degree. More students having degrees also would make the number of college grads with high school diploma jobs even higher (“Is College Education Worth It?”). According to “How Many High School Graduates Attend College?” and “Is College Education Worth It?” the benefits of college include more job opportunities, knowledge, more college grads on average earn more money, learn skills, explore career options, and more. Yes, this is true, but you do not have to have a college degree to be successful. Some of the most successful people do not have college degrees. According to “Is College Education Worth It?” 14 of the 30 highest growing jobs do not require a college degree. You can also learn skills with any job. It is not exclusive to having a degree.
Free college education is a controversy with a clear answer. Do not let it go through. If free education goes through everyone will feel the consequences, which include the impact on the job market, unemployment, and the people financially.
