By eliminating species, ecosystems will follow in pursuit. Species and ecosystems have a symbiotic relationship. They need each other to survive. Looking at the bigger picture, it’s not the species that is being preserved at this point. It is species of an ecosystem that we should be focusing on. The argument follows that the duty to preserve animals is also preserving ecosystems. Species have inhabited ecosystems for a long time. They were constantly evolving and have created sentient beings who ought to be less self-interested and more focused on caring and respecting the evolutionary process that brought humans to their current …show more content…
They are filled with biases that tend to not look at the earth as a whole world view. We are constantly innovating and growing and in the process snipping off various species who had helped our planet at one point in time. Pandas help the environment by spreading bamboo seeds and allowing for growth within their own ecosystem (“Great Panda”). One of Rolston's major arguments was that species help the ecosystem to survive and thrive. Just as the ecosystem helps humans to survive, humans should save species overall to protect from the collapse of both. Because of their sheer size in populations, humans are the ones using up a total part of the biodiversity for exploitation or for human benefits. If an individual were to observe humans as animals, a better form of comradery would be called for between Homo sapiens and other species. Higher respect for the environment would be called for and the rates at which species are dying have the potential to decrease over time. This can be helped by saving areas rich in biodiversity and leaving them as
