Even though it may seem small, I feel accomplished in my decision and action. Furthermore, I performed a lot of critical thinking between these two shifts. V.R.’s hypothyroidism provided me many opportunities to think through several nursing care plans and interventions. I identified causes for the abnormal labs and discussed the following actions that were implemented. I learned a great deal about courage from the book we are reading in class. Bowling quoted Einar Kloster, the president and CEO of Philips Lighting when he said, “Courage to follow through on your own convictions is critical.” Bowling then continued on to say, “Only when you have the courage of your convictions can you effectively follow your knows” (Bowling, 2001). In this case, I felt the conviction to pray for V.R.’s mother. I knew that was something the Lord was asking me to do, but I was lacking the courage to carry it out.
