The story of Oedipus is a rather tragic story, in the legend, a prophet tells Oedipus that he will kill his father, marry his mother, and have children with her. So in spite of the prophet he pack his things and leaves his village. In his travels he comes across a traveling caravan, out of rage, he slaughters everyone in it. He presses farther in the desert. He later finds a city, he comes to the gate and finds there is a sphinx guarding the gate. The sphinx tell Oedipus she will only free the town if the riddle is solved. Oedipus solves the riddle and frees the town, they become ecstatic and make Oedipus the king, then he late marries the queen. Fast forward a few years, and he is talking to the queen asking about her past husband, and she said they had one child who they gave away to another family in a neighboring village. Fast forward a couple more month and Oedipus finds out he married his mother and had children with her, also he figured out the caravan he slaughtered had his father amouage them. This Greek legends is a prime example of fatalism. The antagonist of the story, Oedipus, is told of his destiny. Out of rage he tries to change his destiny, but little did he know that in the end we all fulfill our destiny. We can learn from Oedipus, that our destiny set in stone and will never change. This ideology says that our biological make-up determines our actions and how we deal with our problems at hand. So if we take a look at how people live their lives,how their parents lived theirs, and so on there are many similarities. Take a look at their choices, what they do for a living, the friends they have, even their significant other, they all share the same basic qualities. It is said that we would be the same individual if we could reproduce A sexualy, but sense the human genome isn't capable of self replication we have to have a partner to reproduce. So by that logic we carry some of the same characteristic of our parents. If we are the same person mashed into one then we should all have similar ideology and characteristics with those who came before us. I’ll use my family as an example, my entire family has a tendency to lean towards math related occupations. My great great grandfather was a civil engineer, his son is a chemical engineer,and my grandfather is a mechanical engineer. It may be coincidental, but by looking at my family tree there is a trend, majority of my family members go on to develop a career in math. Now this may not be as prevalent in other families like mine, but no matter how same on a similarity it is, we all share the same base values in life.
