If someone completely opposite to you called you a disgrace to society, would you say the same to them? In S.E. Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders, greasers are considered a disgrace to society because of their insufficient housing and their lack of money to afford things that the socs have. Though the greasers are poor, they love each other like a family. The socs, on the other hand, do not really “love” each other. They can afford the “necessary” things, but many are not kind, or they do not care about anyone other than themselves. Therefore, The Socs are more of a disgrace to society because they are often not sober when they hurt people, they bribe people to sway their judgement of what is right, and they do something to try to cover up the bad things they did.

Bob and Randy were drunk when they hurt Johnny and Ponyboy, which means they were not in their right state of mind. This proves that they are more of a corruption to society. In addition, the Socs, pay people that might know about the awful thing they did to other people, because money might get someone to be hushed about it, which shows how they are a dishonor to society. Finally, the Socs try to act exceptional by doing something such as community work to try and cover up the bad thing they did, showing that they know they did something bad, but they want people to forget about it.
