For example, the Toronto Maple Leafs had 28 wins during the 2015-2016 season. So, by taking the total wins (28) and diving it by the total games (82), the winning percentage will be 34.15%. There are other factors that could affect a team’s winning percentage as well. I have decided to look at six other game statistics; goals scored per game, goals scored against per game, power play percentage, penalty kill percentage, shots on goal per game, and face off wins percentage. All of these statistics can affect how a team ranks during a season. The data used throughout this report is from the 2015-2016 NHL season, collected from NHL.com. Using the data given, I will be able to determine what or if any of these statistics have a large impact on a team’s winning percentage.
