The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a self reporting assessment based directly on Carl Jung 's theory of personality (Friedman & Schustack, 2012). Jung hypothesized four functions of the mind: sensing, thinking, feeling, and intuiting. Further he determined that within each person all the personality traits exist, however, one of them normally dominates. In addition, Jung described two major attitudes of either introversion or extroversion which influence the other personality traits depending on which is dominant. According to Carl Jung 's theory people can be characterized by their general attitude preference toward introversion or extroversion; their preference toward perception as displayed in sensing or intuition; and their …show more content…
I find it hard to answer questions with a simple yes or no and many of the questions could have gone either way. I did take another test where the opposites were represented on a 5 point scale and the slider was moved more toward one aspect or the other and my result came up with a different result. However there are some aspects of these results that are in line with my personality. The lower scores were in areas which could have gone either way; as an example, I tend to be more spontaneous than organized and prefer to leave things open ended, which is the alternate of how I scored. Further, although introvert vs. extrovert both fit depending on the situation. I do have a wide circle of acquaintances from which I can draw energy and opinions; however, I also have a tendency to have many acquaintances over any close friends because the downtime I require to recharge inhibits my ability to engage in the activities required to maintain close friends. This trait, however, often sees me not living in a concrete world, but one where personal commitments and obligations are avoided. When it comes to my school or work life, however, I like things to be concrete and "black and white" so to speak so there is no room for error. In school, particularly, I am very literal and often have difficulty understanding assignments without an example or specific instructions; although this could be attributed to previous school experiences and an overwhelming fear of failure in this area. Overall, I think the evaluation would be better presented in the manner in which I took the second time where it was rated as more closely to which item.
