Summary 3 In the Novel through the winter section the book opens up with what is called a children's dick and Jane grammar reader. The book talks about Jane who is extremely excited to play. Nobody wants to play with her except a friend the come around. For some reason the book keeps repeating what just happened. In prologue number 2 the narrator starts to talk about marigolds. The narrator who's name we do not know says they planted these seeds that didn't grow because of a girl named Pecola. Pecola was a girl who was impregnated by her father. The reason why the marigold is important is because they wanted to plant it in order to keep the baby healthy when born. The narrator was sad because the plant
