The 13th Amendment states “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.” In simpler words, Slavery or involuntary labor is illegal unless it is it a punishment for a crime that the party has been convicted of. This Amendment is important because it prevents slavery or any type of labour without a person's consent, unless they have done a crime that is worth doing labour against their will. If this Amendment wasn't kept it could cause a civil war like it did before. Another example of this is when the “Hodges v. United States” case happened. The reason why this Amendment is important is because it could also help prevent people from being treated like slaves involuntarily. In the case, three white men were convicted for conspiring against Black sawmill workers by using a statute to deprive American Citizens from their Constitutional Liberties.

This amendment is important because it allows people to voice their opinions. A historical example of this was when women didn’t have the right to vote. As well as african americans. The Amendment had fixed this by allowing any citizen of the US and the state they reside in to vote without being denied the right
