It keeps us grounded in our faith and reminds us to be humble. Theologians have done revealing, relevant work through the Holy Spirit for thousands of years. We cannot simply dismiss their revelations. And is the same breathe, we cannot allow our tradition to ossify us. God is active and lives among us. God did not stop speaking to us when the Bible was canonized, or when the church fathers became part of our history. New revelations are still possible but we must also look at them through the lens of our tradition and continue on this journey of faith just as forefathers and mothers did. Change and movement are part of our tradition as well. Our own movement and eventual new denomination were created out of Wesley’s quest to honor tradition and to find renewed energy in the Holy Spirit. We do not have to look at progress as loss of tradition. It is an embedded piece of our tradition. Personal experience is important to supporting our faith and to illuminate the experiences of women of faith. Contextually, Scripture focuses on men of faith to the point that women are obscured. It can be difficult to find stories in the Bible that take seriously the faith and service of a woman’s life. Communal experience of women allows us to read between the lines of the Bible and see the women of history that have been forgotten and to find our own roles in God’s
