The Importance Of Socio-Personal Development Of Education

After family, school is the other place where a child spend time. And it is expected from the educational system to teach the children. These institutions are not just responsible for their academic growth. Because the educational institutions, along with the family, is a major influence in children's socio-personal development. Besides cognitive development, schooling also involves appropriate socio-personal development (i.e., self-reliance, self-discipline, taking initiative, independence of thought, understanding relationships with people and environment, responsible action, etc.). Development of such socio-personal qualities includes knowledge, understanding, abilities and skills. Students might be suffering Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Low Self Esteem, Depression, Eating Disorders, Sleep and Perfectionism.
Education develop the students from different perspective – educational, vocational, personal, social, moral, physical etc. to make them productive and useful for the country. Every child has the potential to develop self-understanding which includes understanding of abilities, interests, behaviors, attitudes, values, conflicts, anxieties, likes, dislikes, impulses / emotions, goals, one’s role in society etc.

It facilitates development of effective study habits, motivation, identifying learning or subject related problems, helping students to see the relevance of school years in life and for future, developing skills, right attitude and interests to help making a choice in career etc. Counselling, thus, promotes holistic development of every student. This signifies the need for every teacher to become a ‘guidance minded’ teacher and carry out his/her functions with guidance
