There are about 100 or more holidays that fall in a school year that would need to be recognized in order to fit the needs of the diversity in MISD. Imagine having to celebrate all of the holidays that fall in a school year. What time would be left to teach the students the curriculum. Students would fall behind because schools would be to busy planning for celebrations. “ Tone down holiday celebrations was one of wasting allotted teaching time. There isn 't time enough in the day to "celebrate every holiday, We have to think about our purpose. Are we about teaching reading, writing and math or for parties or fundraising during the day?” ( Smyth). Money would be another big part of it as well, we would have to ask parents to buy or pitch in for certain things and many parents do not want to fit that into their budget. It may cause financial problems if one cannot afford to contribute. Many people are for the celebrations of holidays, but we must come to an understanding that there is not enough in a school year to schedule in all of the celebrations in one school year while trying to maintain our purpose which is to keep our students …show more content…
We want to our students to focus solely on the purpose of school which is to be educated. In order to create an environment in which students, parents, and staff feel equal, I have made my choice based upon the factor that could lead to more issues about how celebrations should be. Again, we have to remember that holiday celebrations are very time taking and we do not have a lot of time in one school year.
